Websites are traditionally developed with a vertical layout in mind. Most of them use fixed width, designed to fit into smaller resolution screens that are most common (800600 used to be the standard, now its 1024768). The rest of us, with newer and bigger screens, are a minority. Our higher-then-average resolution usually comes with empty space around web pages.
