Some of our users prefer to store their files, especially very large ones, outside 5pm – on FTP, file-share services like Dropbox, etc. They just post the links to them into 5pm (in messages or task/project description), which are automatically converted into URLs.
Files on your local network (your company public drive, for example) can also be linked, but there are limitations we wanted to make you aware of:
- Links to files on local network will work only in Internet Explorer (in other browsers we don’t convert them to URLs, since they will not work).
- Make sure you link to a network mapped drive (ex: U:\myfile.jpg). If you try to link to a local hard drive file (ex: C:\myfile.jpg), IE will simply not open the link due to security restrictions. Generally, you don’t have to worry about this one, since nobody else has access to your local hard drive, so it makes no sense to link to local files.
