Below are just five practical solutions you may need when optimizing your  app for iOs 7. Feel free to add more in the comments – it may save other developers some time.

Strip, PayPal, Google Checkout

This is a follow up the the post “Stripe vs PayPal”.

“We’re reaching out to remind you that as of today, Google Checkout is officially retired.“

That was the start of the email from Google Checkout today… they have been announcing it for a while.

As mentioned in the Stripe vs PayPal post, Google Checkout never really worked for recurring payments. We only used it for one-time payments as an alternative to PayPal. It worked better internationally.

With Google Checkout out of the picture, there is more space for companies like Stripe.

While PayPal is big, they did not innovate much in web payments lately. The PayPal interface needs a redesign. You send a customer to their website for a subscription upgrade and they are back with two different subscriptions instead – a typical case. So now we have to cancel the duplicate subscription, refund the difference, email the client, etc. It’s like sending them to the wilderness without a map and waiting at the edge of the forest to see if they emerge unscathed. If they do at all…

5pm Celebrates 6th Birthday!

5pm celebrates 6 years!

6 years ago 5pm was born. Since then it grew and changed, as did our team.

Only this year we released such big features as: in-house developed native iPhone app  v2 (to replace the first version), Social Toolbar with in-app chat, redesigned Timeline and the updated interface.

We are looking forward to keep expanding and improving 5pm and want to thank all our customers for their support and feedback!

Get more done by 5pm!

Rich text editor update!

New text editorWe updated the rich text editor today. In fact we totally replaced it with a new one. Here are some changes:

  • more typing/formatting options, as pasting text from Word, full screen typing mode, etc.
  • ability to post a link to a task
  • improved copy/paste functionality

Besides that we also updated the popup windows. The size got wider, the texts size increased and a smart autoresize when typing longer texts is available.

And, at last – no more losing what you typed in by accidentally hitting ESC – now you will get a confirmation on trying to close popup windows without saving the changes!

Happy typing!

Offline messagesSocial Toolbar is an useful tool if you want to discuss something quick with an online teammate.

But what if your colleague went offline right when you sent him a chat message? Or he was away from keyboard, while getting multiple messages, and then closed 5pm without reading them? No problem – today we released an update that will email those unread chat messages to your teammate!

We hope you will find this feature useful.
