Ever since we introduced Task Dependencies, our users gladly embraced this new feature and kept coming back with new suggestions. Many use the dependent tasks to create lists of sub-tasks. After collecting all the feedback, we came up with a redesign that combines task dependencies with sub-tasks:
- Sub-tasks still maintain dependencies with the parent task when its start date and/or deadline is moved around, but the parent task doesn’t need to have a deadline anymore (yes, this rule is gone!)
- Now you can fold/unfold the dependent tasks list
- The multiple nesting levels are clearly represented now
- Make quick connections between tasks by simply dragging them into each other!
We hope you will enjoy these updates.
If you are uploading images into 5pm, there is a new feature that you may enjoy: now you can roll your cursor over an image link to see its preview in a popup. One less click when you just need a quick peak!
We will be starting to phase out the support for Internet Explorer 6. This browser has been around from 2001 and we decided it is time to move on. This will help us to provide a better support for all the modern browsers.
Please note that many other companies are starting or already went through the same process, so it may be a good time to upgrade your browser. Here is where you can get the browsers supported by 5pm:
Feel free to email our support for any questions.
We did some tests about a year ago, comparing the 5pm UI on different web browsers. Here are the new results:
Firefox 3.5 is the clear winner this time, so you may consider upgrading.
We believe that all users have the right to take out their data from an online service.
There are many ways to do it in 5pm , the main one being the CSV/Excel export in General Report. Now we also added the possibility to backup your data on-demand and to download it in a raw format (SQL database dump) plus the archived images. Unlike other methods, this backup contains all the data you have in your account. This feature can be accessed by account admins through the “Settings” menu.
Please note that each account data is being backed up automatically every night. This on-demand backup option was added to give 5pm users an extra option.
If you use 5pm often, you may find yourself switching between “Info” and ”Active” tabs pretty often, just to check the Project or Task description. Not anymore!
Now you can display the task/project description in the Activity tab and save the extra click. You can show it on the top or bottom of the panel and even lock it there – all these options can be accessed through the right panel menu (arrow button at the top right corner of the panel).
5pm interface is now available in Italian! All together 5pm speaks nine (!) languages now: English, Swedish, French, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Polish and Italian.
Do you want to see 5pm translated into your language? Any 5pm user can contribute (including the free trial accounts) – just use the “Settings” menu on the top of your 5pm screen. There is a link there called “5pm Translation” that will take you to the public translation area.

We just updated our 5pm API. In fact, we did re-write it from scratch. Now it supports read/write and much more!
5pm API is in alpha now and open for any developer to play with it – your feedback and suggestons are welcome.
